TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO HAVE LASIK

July 28, 2010

There are many reasons not to have LASIK. Get the facts before you place your vision at risk. 1. LASIK causes dry eye 2. LASIK results in loss of visual quality – loss of contrast sensitivity, night vision problems, multiple images, halos, and starbursts. A published review of data for all FDA-approved lasers showed that six months after LASIK, 17.5 percent of patients reported halos, 19.7 percent reported glare (starbursts), 19.3 percent had night-driving problems and 21 percent complained of eye dryness. 3. The cornea is incapable of complete wound healing after LASIK. Researchers found that the flap heals to only 2.4% of normal tensile strength. Collagen bands of the cornea provide its form and strength. LASIK severs these collagen bands and thins the cornea, resulting in permanent weakening. The thinner, weaker post-LASIK cornea is more susceptible to forward bulging due to normal intraocular pressure, which may progress to a condition known as keratectasia and corneal failure, requiring corneal transplant. 4. The true rate of LASIK complications is unknown 5. LASIK results in loss of near vision. Nearsighted patients who do not have LASIK retain the ability to see up close naturally after the age of 40 simply by removing their glasses. LASIK patients over the age of 40 may discover they have traded one pair of glasses for another. 6. There are long-term negative consequences of LASIK. LASIK affects the accuracy of intraocular pressure measurements. Vision-threatening

@Mohseen3 I’d show your dad this video and alot of the other videos related to this.
Lasik can really mess up your vision for the rest of your life which also could possibly lead to depression also if it does mess your fathers vision up he could get into a car accident alot of people have bad experinces with seeing at night. The way i see it just go for contacts or glasses some people don’t like the way glasses look so go for contacts it’s much safer and they won’t screw your eyes up..

@Mohseen3 Warn your Dad about the risks and long-term consequences. Advise him NOT to have LASIK. Go to lasikcomplications (.) com for more information.

  4. urbex2007 on July 28th, 2010 5:01 pm

there is no way i will have this done, i have seen people having too many problems. i will stick with contact lenses. you only get one set of eyes and losing your sight would be terrible. i also couldn’t be doing with halos and starbursts around things at night.

Eye doctors are the biggest liars in the world!!! They just want MONEY!!! Money money money!!! They make your eyes worse and never tell you about side effects! Though i dont have very bad nearsightedness i recommend using contact lenses, ortho C, ortho K and/or glasses!!! Research up on those option and never ever get lasik or any other type of eye surgeries cause there is no going back! You only have one pair of eyes!! Use them wisely!

@ShineHunter There is no flap with PRK, so it’s safer than LASIK (IMO) but carries risk of haze and pain. Other risks apply. ICLs carry serious risks such as glaucoma, cataract, retinal detachment, infection, inflammation, and endothelial cell loss leading to clouding of the cornea and possible corneal transplant. Long-term endothelial cell loss is common with ICLs (these cells cannot regenerate). In my opinion, ICLs are riskier than LASIK.

  7. ShineHunter on July 28th, 2010 6:29 pm

So what about PRK or ICL are the bad too….

  8. LASIKComplications on July 28th, 2010 6:31 pm

@ShineHunter , yes, all ten reasons apply to IntraLase LASIK, too. There are subtle differences, for example, the flap has been shown to heal a bit stronger after IntraLase LASIK, but not completely — not even close. I have a video specifically about IntraLase (all laser, bladefree ) LASIK risks which you can find on my channel.

  9. ShineHunter on July 28th, 2010 6:49 pm

Does this include intralase lasik too.

I’d rather have my natural eye vision my glasses don’t bother me one bit plus my eye are too sensitive for this

  11. raazstone on July 28th, 2010 7:50 pm

Pay thousands of Dollars and yet face permanent blindness?
Lasik seems like a lose-lose situation.

  12. metalmess on July 28th, 2010 8:26 pm

That’s why PRK is way better, it hurts more, but the ephithelium is healed

  13. GetMeThere1 on July 28th, 2010 9:21 pm

Thanks. Informative video. I doubted I would ever get it (instinctive resistance toward getting my eyes messed with), but this video makes it certain: it’s not worth the risk.

Interesting about floaters: I didn’t have them until I was 26 years old. That summer I went hiking up in Rocky Mountain National Park – I wasn’t in shape for that altitude and got mountain sickness. I hiked half a mile, then my vision started to close down. I barely shuffled back to my car, and had headache until I went back down. Since then I have had a huge floater in one eye, but usually I can make it go to the side.

  15. PatricHenry on July 28th, 2010 10:28 pm

had both eyes done same day, One eye is screwed up bad, floaters, blurred vision, halos you name it. The other eye is just fine, so far.

  16. romracer1 on July 28th, 2010 10:59 pm

laser eye surgery ruined my eyes. I have tons of eye floaters now – hundreds. My eyes are snowglobes of floaters. If you don’t know what an eye floater is – you don’t want to know.

  19. missfosterfratana on July 28th, 2010 11:36 pm

Yes, i think you are right “thetruth”, i dont have it but it sounds logical.

Thank you for this information, i use glasses so i could be a possible victim.

  21. VIETNAMIZE79 on July 28th, 2010 11:59 pm

Lasik is not a guaranteed. The results could be permanent. I know cause I’m a victim.

  22. VIETNAMIZE79 on July 29th, 2010 12:20 am

    Maybe blurriness.

  23. VIETNAMIZE79 on July 29th, 2010 1:01 am

Answering your question, lasik probably won’t make you see color blind but blurriness. I know cause I’m a victim.

  24. LASIKComplications on July 29th, 2010 2:01 am

    LASIK is not medicine.

  25. bodryn on July 29th, 2010 2:09 am

Gee – what about all those people who say America has the best medical care in the world???

Got something to say?
